Expectations

1. Attendance: you are expected to be prepared to present at 8 AM for morning rounds. All lectures, rounds, and procedures are mandatory. You are expected to come every weekend unless it is your day off. 

2. Days off: 1 weekend day off per week to be assigned by the resident.

3. Didactics: you are expected to be a part of the team.

a. Progress notes: you are required to write a standard SOAP note on every patient every day.

b. H&P: full history and physical with assessment and plan. Full problem list in order of importance and full differential diagnosis. Your note needs to be referenced. Expect to present full H&P on post-call day.

c. Presentations: brief presentations (< 3 mins) on morning rounds. Full H&P presentations (< 7 mins) on post-call day.

d. Topic presentations: one powerpoint presentation on a topic relevant to your patient. Topic needs to be approved by the Resident.

e. Formal H&P write-up: three (3) expected. One per week. 

f. DOCS: in your final week, we will observe and evaluate you for history taking, physical exam technique, and write-ups.

g. Discharge summary: one (1) discharge summary on a patient you followed.

4. Patient Log: keep a log of all the patients you see. Resident will provide log sheet.

6. Orders: write orders on all of your patients. Orders must be approved by your intern or resident. DO NOT give verbal orders to nurses, place orders in chart, or place orders on the computer system unless explicity confirmed with the intern or resident.
